WINTER STORM UPDATE (1/16 6:50PM)

Important information for during and after the storm event.

Dear Constituents,

As you are hopefully aware, a major winter storm is very likely to hit the Ellicott City region. Significant heavy snow accumulation (20-24 in.) is expected over the next 48 hours. Additionally, sustained winds of 30-40MPH and gusts of up to 50MPH will be observed in our region. Visibility will reach near zero during the height of the storm. Please be prepared for power outages that could last several days.

A State of Emergency has been declared by the Governor bringing in state resources to aid the counties in responding to this storm. Howard County Executive Kittleman and the Howard County Emergency Management Office are working hard to ensure that Howard County is prepared to deal with the storm’s aftermath. Primary and most secondary roadways have been pre-treated throughout the day, but low temperatures hinder the effectiveness of salt. Please stay off the roadways if at all possible.

BGE has brought in over 900 external crews to aid in responding to any outages. If your power goes out, please call them directly at 877.778.2222 or go to the BGE Mobile Site.

Please prepare to be in your home for the foreseeable future. High winds and snow drift will make removal difficult until the snow stops falling. Main arterial roads will be cleared first, followed by secondary and residential roads.

As always, for medical emergencies please dial 911. Additional phone numbers and important links are included below.
